INTRODUCTION TO THE QUALIFICATION
The TQUK Level 4 Award in Food Safety Management for Catering (QCF) is regulated by Ofqual.
QUALIFICATION PURPOSE
The TQUK Level 4 Award in Food Safety Management for Catering (QCF) provides learners with the opportunity
to develop knowledge and understanding of how food business operators can ensure compliance with food safety legislation, the operational requirements needed to ensure food safety, how to implement food safety management procedures and the role of supervision in food safety management procedures. The Food Standards Agency regards these topics as important in maintaining good practice in the production of safe food.
.It will prepare learners to progress to a qualification in the same or another subject area.
The qualification is aimed at managers working in a food or drink catering environment who have some
responsibility for food safety. Learners are likely to have management responsibilities within an operational team.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no specific entry requirements however learners should have a minimum of Level one in literacy and
numeracy or equivalent.
The qualification is suitable for learners pre-16 and above.
PROGRESSION
Successful learners can progress to other qualifications such as:-
- Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Business Compliance (QCF)
- Level 4 Diploma in Principles of Hospitality Management (QCF)
- Credit from the unit can be transferred to the qualifications listed.

GUIDED LEARNING HOURS
The credit value of a qualification can be used to determine how long it will take a learner to achieve, as one credit corresponds to 10 hours of learning. These hours are made up of contact time with a teacher/assessor, referred to as guided learning hours (GLH), and non-contact time for study and assessment activities.
The recommended GLH for this qualification is a minimum of 40 hours.
ASSESSMENT
This qualification is assessed through activities, which are developed by the centre, internally marked and sampled
as part of quality assurance/ internal verification procedures.
Recording documents for the assessments can be found on the TQUK Management Suite.
The assessment and quality assurance process will be subject to external quality assurance/verification by TQUK.

- Practical Demonstration
- Group Discussion
- Case study
- Written assignment
- Observation of learner’s skills
- Question and answer sessions
All learning outcomes must be met to achieve a Pass – there is no grading
